As part of our on-going efforts to test Health Center residents for COVID-19, we want to provide an update on exposures to the virus within our Beacon Hill community. We learned late Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, that five additional Health Center resident tested positive for COVID-19. We have a total of 24 active Health Center resident cases of the virus. Twenty three residents are being cared for in our Health Center while one is being cared for in the hospital. Most of these residents are showing little to no symptoms.
We also learned we have one additional team member case of COVID-19. By way of recap, we have a total of 10 active cases of COVID-19 among individuals who provide care and services in our Health Center. To support our teams, Lifespace Communities continues to provide additional nursing support from other Lifespace communities and agency partners until it is safe for these individuals to return to Beacon Hill.
We continue to work closely with the DuPage County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health. We realize that this situation is concerning to you, and we are committed to being open and transparent, while respecting the privacy of those involved. We have implemented our pre-planned infection control protocols and continue to follow recommended COVID-19 protocols at our community under the guidance of the health agencies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We will continue to screen and monitor our residents, team members and essential visitors for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. Additional information regarding COVID-19 in our community will be provided to you when available, as appropriate. To support our efforts to control the spread of the virus in our community, we ask that you continue to be vigilant in following heightened infection control guidelines. Therefore, please continue to stay in your homes, practice social distancing, and if you must venture out for essential items, follow all recommended protocols including washing your hands frequently and using hand sanitizer.
